The "Magic" of the Elf via Ryan's Quest

Words written from a mother on her son...Help make this season magical!

The "Magic" of the Elf

It all started the night of Thanksgiving...our little elf named Elfie arrives for his traditional holiday visit. It's amazing how this "magical" creature can capture the heart of little boys and girls around the world in such an amazing way. This little elf has become such a part of our holiday traditions, as it is probably what the boys look forward to most in the days leading up to Santa's visit.

elfIn addition to our other dynamic elf duo "Jingles & Jangles", Elfie consumes every spare thought in Ryan's mind as he searches for clues of their whereabouts each morning, asks millions of questions about "elf history", writes them letters of thanks, and speaks to them when no one in the house is watching.

As I watch my children's eyes fill with wonder and belief that all things are possible, there is just something so hopeful that comes over me. While Dave and I remain positive that our prayers will somehow be answered, it's strange how this season gives me greater hope that maybe a little bit of "magic" could bring us our Christmas Miracle.

As I help Elfie to find his special place each night...I think of the smiles, laughter, and memories that my boys will hold with them forevryanccer of this wonderful holiday tradition... I think of how grateful I am that God has given me the two most precious gifts in Ryan and Mason...And yes...at times I think of asking Elfie to bring Santa a request for my one and only Christmas wish...a cure for Ryan. Perhaps, one night as your hand reaches out to your elf, you may do the same.

Dave and I would like to thank you for sharing in our hope and standing  beside us in this fight over the past five years. We are truly closer than ever before to a suitable treatment in the Duchenne field.
Please continue to fight with us...by either donating or spreading the word. Help us keep the mission of Ryan's Quest alive.

SCHOOLS CAN SAVE LIVES

$

0

I believe there are SO many contributing factors as to why we see so many tragic events take place...not just in schools, but in movie theaters, in homes...in plain sight. Rather than pointing fingers or raising concerns about things such as gun laws, I rather talk about A SOLUTION. After giving it thought each time we have a traumatic shooting massacre in our country or teenage suicide, I believe that schools are one of the biggest solutions to the problems - schools can save lives!

Times change, people change, customs changes, and therefore, we need to change with them. Growing up, not every mom worked. Today, a majority of households have two working parents. A majority of households have only one parent. Perhaps there are even numbers of households that do not have a set standard of values that our parents once held. Perhaps some parents do not have the means to parent. Perhaps a single mom has to work nights to save her family's home and feed her children. Time for parenting is lost.

Teachers are incredible human beings. They dedicate their lives to grow children. I have the pleasure of knowing some of the greatest teachers who have hearts of gold and caring souls! What I've learned is that when you sign up to be a teacher, you are not signing up just to teach a class, but to nurture children. YOU become the part-time mom and dad to an entire classroom. Some of the children may not require this luxury, but often times, a lot of them do. So, with that, I hope that all teachers embrace that position and realize that yes, they are ARE making differences in the lives of children and teenagers...and they need to keep in mind that what they do can effect their lives greatly!

Now I don't know about you, but I remember dreading having to be pulled out of class one by one to go to the nurse for hearing tests, eye exams, and that once a year "wear-a-bathing-suit-to-school-day" so that spines could be checked for Scoliosis. Sure, these are all part of a child's development and it's wonderful to have these or have had these exams take place in the school. What I never seen implemented though was a mental exam. Granted, there are guidance counselors available and I commend them, but I believe that in the year 2012 going on 2013, we need more than just guidance counselors in our schools who are available to reach out to. I believe that there must be laws in tact where there are certified psychologists who DO pull ALL children out of class one by one at least a few times a year to assess them mentally and check in to their MENTAL development as well as their physical development. I'm not just talking about elementary schools, but middle schools, and most importantly high schools! I DO believe that teachers should be trained to look for particular behaviors of certain "brain" diseases - things like depression, anxiety, aspergers, autism, personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and so forth! Teachers should be paid more money for including that in to their list of daily duties, but that's a discussion for another time. I'm sure though, that it's not too difficult to have a teacher compile a list of the children in his or her classroom and possibly help to identify some patterns and behaviors that they see in their children which can serve as a guide to aid a psychologist who can then assess the children. Things like this NEED to be done!

What angers me are articles I read AFTER tragedies occur when gunmen or murderers are remembered as "the weird kid", "the quiet kid", "the kid who didn't have many friends", "the shy kid", "the troubled kid". My question is...if you are able to "label" them now...why couldn't you HELP them back then?

Maybe there are plain evil people in the world, but I also believe that a lot of  this so called "evil" often stems from a disorder in the brain or the way a child's life was molded. I wonder over and over again why more is not done to bring awareness to mental illness, why more research is not done, why we disregard mental illness instead of helping those suffering from it. I think a lot of it is due to the stigma mental illness carries. Mental Illness should not carry a stigma! It is a DISEASE just like diabetes is a disease. One cannot help that they have a problem. One should be treated for their illness. You wouldn't take a kid who has diabetes and constantly put candy in front of him, would you? What if you didn't know he had diabetes and you kept handing him candy? Wouldn't you want to know NOT to feed the child sugar? Wouldn't you want knowledge on how to help care for this child? Wouldn't you want to help this child before it was too late? Why is that child with diabetes different than a child with a mental disorder? Wouldn't you want to identify a disease that an innocent child has? Wouldn't you want knowledge on how to help care for this child? Wouldn't you want to help this child before it was too late?

Open your eyes, world! Take the stigma away from Mental Illness! Help treat it and defeat it so that those children do not grow up to take lives...including their own. Help to treat it so that these problems are not masked or that these sufferers do not self-medicate with alcohol and drugs. I know that I personally would have trouble sleeping at night knowing that a young adult suffered years of torture in his or her mind that could have been treated if someone just spoke up and got them some help. Put the help IN schools. Do not leave it up to the parents. Parents have a hard time coming to terms that their children may have a stigmatized "problem". Parents rather run from that than help their child because it is not of the norm. But yes, it has become of the norm!

Children are always the future and the future depends on how they are taught and cared for. Schools are where children spend most of their lives, so why not let the schools save lives?!

Ryan's Quest Valentine Ball - Roar for a Cure

Ryan's Quest took a step back in time to the Roaring Twenties while celebrating accomplishments throughout the organization and Duchenne community, and also giving a party for all of those who help raise awareness and roar for a cure!

Upon entering the Westin Princeton, guests dressed in an array of fringe, fun feathered headbands, boas, suspenders, and bow ties were greeted with pink champagne, passed hors d'oeuvres, ice luges, contests, and a silent auction that consisted of prizes from South African Safari stays to once-in-a life time experiences on field with the NY Yankees!

After cocktail hour, when the reception doors opened, a 16 piece orchestra was blaring "Sing Sing Sing"as twenty showgirls from Stewart Johnson Dance Academy lined the floor posed as shiny mannequins. They then got the party started with their well-choreographed routine to Christina Aguilera's 'Burlesque' as they danced on chairs and brought the house down!

Next up was an introduction by John Crowley of 'Extraordinary Measures'. Once he introduced Dave Schultz, Ryan's father, Dave awarded Giants great Jessie Armstead and Antonio Pierce with the 2013 Ryan's Quest Hero Award for their commitment to helping Ryan's Quest and being such great advocators. Jessie happily accepted for he and Antonio (who was unable to attend last minute due to inclimate weather). A trailer then played on the screens for 'Darius Goes West'. And, amazingly so, Darius Weems himself and director Logan Smalley were in attendance to accept the next set of 2013 Ryan's Quest Hero Awards. The crowd jumped to a standing ovation as Darius who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and lost his brother from this awful disease, proudly accepted. Maria Schultz, Ryan's mother then spoke and discussed the importance of time and how boys like Ryan and Darius need more of it!
Darius Weems and Logan Smalley with family and friends

Decor for the evening was made of up-cycled materials in an effort to go green by In Full Bloom. Some of this decor consisted of a huge backdrop of handmade flowers created simply from paper. Corey Fyffe also lent a hand to some beautiful stationary such as menus and table numbers. Music from the evening was fitting to the theme with the Midnight Sun Orchestra, but the party also took a modern twist as DJs Gregg Hollman and DJ Spinz of Ambient DJ got the floor packed with their beats! Brian Dzbenski from Master Disc Jockeys even took a turn leading the crowd with some moves while playing live footage on the big screens. A land/sea duet was served and then a huge couture cupcake display created by Cake it Up sat above and below The Linen Touch's silver sequined linens and silver shimmery shimilier where over 700 hundred "Cuptails" (cocktail-inspired cupcakes) were a welcomed dessert! Bakers who donated delicious treats were Sibling Rivalry Sweets, Dillicious Cupcakes, Sue's Sweets, Chocolate in the Oven, Coco's Cakery, Dana's Custom Cakes, Puddin's Cake Corner, Stace of Cakes, Lynn VanCamp-Crutchley, Randi Sabine, Nino's Pastry Shop, Treats from Chrissy's Kitchen, and Terri Kent. A SnapShotz Photo Booth was jammed at most times full of friends smiling knowing that they were at an event that was not only fun, but also was for a cause!

The event that was sponsored by First Choice Bank went on until midnight with dancing, champagne-to-go, more dancing, and prizes! A 14 Karat Diamond Heart Necklace donated by Trent Jewelers was given to one lucky winner while His and Hers Movado watches also donated by Trent Jewelers were given to another. Forty other recipients who took a chance at winning something shiny or sweet took home diamond necklaces, again donated by Trent Jewelers.

Heather Sconza, Owner of All The Rave Events by Heather
This was an event that was a pleasure to watch come to life and is something I believe that Jay Gatsby would be proud of! Most importantly though - it was a success for Ryan's Quest which in turn is a success for the Duchenne Alliance which in turn is a success for the Duchenne community which will hopefully mean we are successful in buying time while finding a cure!

Maria Schultz quoted Art Buchwald saying "Whether it's the best of times or the worst of times, it's the only time we've got". This is where we need to realize that if we don't take this time now to celebrate each day we have and work tirelessly for a cure, we will be wasting what is precious - time.

Thankfully, Erica Haller Photography captured tons of great pictures from the evening which can be viewed here: ericahallerphoto.keepandshare.com

STAND OUT with Jewelry Picks by Heather

Aside from Event Planning and working closely with the charity Ryan's Quest - 2 of my passions, I have decided to launch an online jewelry boutique that I can actually tie in to social media - another love of mine. I look to not only sell gorgeous pieces at great prices that either fit my personality or are trending at the moment, but to tie them in to certain themes whether it be celebrity fashion as a "How to Get That Look", by releasing inspiration boards, or simply by listening to what YOU are looking for!

I LOVE accessories! I think they are like icing on the cake! They're a way to brand yourself and show off your personality! Myself...I generally go for big clunky bracelets and odd-looking pieces that are daring to wear! To me, it means making a bold statement! I like unique styles, but will also add very classic pieces to my shop.

My mother always wanted to open a boutique. So, I'm going to do this in her memory. She ALWAYS accessorized...and to me, she always stood out. Now, it's time for us all to grab our inner diva, slap on something shiny or sparkly and STAND OUT!

Go to my online boutique. As like many online boutiques that are sweeping the world wide web, you must join (only by creating a password). There will be flash sales each week that I will update you on! These pieces are all from emerging designers and will be sold at up to 60% off!

I can't wait for you to see the pieces I've chosen to share!
STAND OUT if you dare!

Jewel-tones and pretty off-whites covered the red carpet at the 65th Emmy Awards. A few of these beauties shined the brightest! While I wasn't overly impressed with this year's Emmy fashion, there were some actresses who stayed consistent from previous red carpets, and of course, there are those designers who fail to disappoint!

Kaley Cuocco made a "big bang" in a cranberry Vera Wang gown.

Julie Louis-Dryfes's sparkly strapless sequin gown by Monique Lhuillier was absolutely one of my favorites!

Heidi Klum wore a "pomegranate" sequin/beaded number in Versace. It was very costumey, but if anyone can pull it off, it's definitely Heidi Klum!

Giuliana Rancic is always gorgeous. Her mermaid was by Tadashi Shoji. For her first time in blue on the red carpet, I would say the color was a bit underwhelming for me. I wish it was a tad bit more in the purple or grey family to go with her skin tone and "Nutella" hair, but all the same, she was exquisite!

One of the most stunning gowns on the red carpet by far was by Donna Karan Atelier, and giving it great justice as it was worn gracefully, was Linda Cardellini.

Connie Britton is shown here in Naeem Khan. The velvet turquoise gown embellished with gold, was very regal and very pretty.

Kerry Washington is someone who is always consistently gorgeous on the red carpet. She wore a flowing intricate tricolor gown by Marchesa! Captivating!

Sarah Hyland wore a very flattering shade of green laced in black by Carolina Herrera.

Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi was dressed simple in Kaufman Franco, but was definitely a cut above the rest! And, the cut above the waist...super cute! Perfectly accessorized with gold jewelry!

My favorite gown of the evening was another by Marchesa. Malin Akerman wore this very light grey, almost white gown with incredible detail. Very much red carpet-worthy!

Ryan's Quest Valentine Ball 2014

Once Upon a Time…February 8th to be exact…The Westin Princeton opened it's doors to one of my favorite events - this year's Ryan's Quest Valentine Ball - The Enchanted Garden.
The night sponsored by First Choice Bank was a huge success and a dream come true really. With events such as charity galas, we rely a great deal on talents from others who can donate time and services in an effort to raise as much money as possible for the cause. When the time, talent, and services exceed your expectations, as a planner, you cannot help but feel your heart grow!
This event was proof that love CAN conquer all!

I'm grateful that photographer Erica Haller and her assistant Albert both of Erica Haller Photography captured incredible shots that we can forever cherish as we look back to see what helped us to get one step closer to finding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Upon entering Cocktail Hour, which was gorgeously decorated by In Full Bloom, you could not help but be awed by the handmade decor and pieces crafted out of wood. As you grabbed a signature 'Fairy-Tail' Appletini, you may have noticed some woodland and fairytale creatures prancing around or on display. Five salons were asked to help create wow-factors to add to the enchantment. Salon Artigiano, Salon Pure, VC Salon, Great Looks, and Salon G were all on board for the task, and believe me, they WOWed us!

Salon Artigiano's 'Heirshroom'
VC Salon's 'Believe'
Salon Pure's 'Enchanted Fawn'

In the background, sounds from Tutti Dolce came from the trio's strings. From classical to current hits - they added to the magical mood of the event.
Passed hors d'oeuvres were a plenty.
A Silent Auction made up of over 70 amazing prize packages from Disney Vacations to Once in a Lifetime Experiences adorned a room that was full of special contests and raffles - some of which were provided by Trent Jewelers.
Creative centerpieces by In Full Bloom helped to make our garden even more enchanted while menus by Darling and Pearl were specially customized for the event. From the stars on the ceilings and branches along the walls, Xplosive Entertainment enveloped us in a beautiful whimsical ambience.

Two very special women were awarded the Ryan's Quest Hero Award - Jenn McNary and Christine McSherry! This came after the premier of a trailer provided by the Wider Brothers.
The magic continued as Jason Liberatore and Dan Miller provided exquisite acoustic renditions of 'He's My Son' and 'Demons' in which the amazing Tyler Stewart performed a moving contemporary dance with grace and excellence portraying the struggle of this awful disease and overcoming it.
The NERDS than took the stage and had the dance floor packed! They were so good that it seemed as though their sound was heard as far as Philly as one of its main residents ended up crashing the event! Yes, the Philly Phanatic stopped by for some added fun and laughs!

Xplosive Entertainment continued to keep the guests dancing to their favorites and were amazing emcees as well!
Some guests dressed to fit the theme - all guests enjoyed the enchanted evening filled with love!

Over a dozen bakers donated scrumptious desserts for our
Garden of Sweets!

These Elderflower Panna Cottas were provided by Pastry Chef  Randi Sabine

Whimsical cupcakes were sent to us from Puddin's Cake Corner

Artistic cake pops were a vision of Little Ladies Sweet Treats

Other amazing goodies were provided by: Sue's Sweets, Coco's Cakery, Dana's Custom Cakes, Dillicious Cupcakes, Lynn Crutchley, Jennifer's Couture Cupcakes, How Sweet it Is by Melissa, Terri Kent, Chrissy's Creations, and Carella's Chocolates

Dave and Maria Schultz, founders of Ryan's Quest and parents to Ryan Schultz, ironically stand in front of a clock that was used for decor. To them, the clock symbolizes every second of every day for while dealing with the realities of Duchenne muscular dystrophy which is a 100% fatal disease that occurs mainly in boys - one being their son. Boys with Duchenne lose their ability to walk between the ages of 8-12, require respiratory assistance in their teens, and survive only in to their twenties. Racing against the clock is what everyone in the Duchenne community does every day as every day two boys are lost to this villain! It doesn't have to be this way. Especially not now when treatments are out there - treatments that are being held captive by the FDA.
I was so happy with such a successful event made possible by so many! It truly was "All The Rave", and as a planner and coordinator, I couldn't be more grateful by the help of so many vendors, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and guests! My goal throughout this event and one to keep in mind is that we need to continue to fight and race against the clock so that these boys and their families can LIVE

Do You Take Kate Spade? I DO!

I'm in love with the bridal items Kate Spade has! Not only does Kate Spade carry wedding gowns and the glitziest of shoes, but they have some of the most precious accessories that can be given as gifts to those special ladies in your life! Whether you're the bride looking for bridesmaid gifts or you're looking for a special gift for the bride, Kate Spade has some really unique items to celebrate women all around through an engagement to a wedding day.

The popular idiom bracelets are adorable as they usually hold special messages inside. Kate Spade has sayings from "I Do" to "Something Blue" which would make pretty gifts for the bride!

At the same time, there are special idiom bracelets that would be perfect gifts for the Maid or Matron of Honor and bridemsaids.

Something like the "Best Friend Ever" idiom bracelet which displays messages such as "Peas in a Pod" and "Partners in Crime" is an adorable way to let your BFFs know how much they mean to you. And then, of course, is the "You and Me" idiom bracelet that has cute sayings like "The Hocus to my Pocus" which would make a special gift for the Maid or Matron of Honor to cherish. You can find these bracelets in silver, gold, and rose gold colors, and as necklaces too!

The "Taken" necklace is a perfect engagement gift!
The "Marry Me" Clutch is really different. With the looks of a romantic novel, this clutch is very chic!
A white watch that says "MRS" is such a special gift for the bride - it would look perfect on her tanned wrist when she's visiting the islands during her honeymoon.

Can you imagine? She can wear the watch to be sure she's on time when she uses her passport holder as she begins her "Happily Ever After"! It all just marries together perfectly!

From Cabo with Love - Lauren Conrad's Bachelorette Party

From Laguna to the Hills to Cabo. Next stop will be the aisle for Lauren Conrad to say her “I Dos”, but before hitting the nuptials, she had an uber cute time with her besties on her Bachelorette Getaway in Cabo, and her pictures, as always, show why she is one of my favorite trendsetters!

Yes, I am proud to admit, I follow former 'Laguna Beach' and 'Hills' star "LC" on Instagram. How can you not? She posts some of the most amazing eye candy from cupcakes to flowers, and her whole entire history on the site is posted in the what appears to be the same filter - she's definitely great at her craft and has a keen eye for what looks good!

So when I saw a picture of what appeared to be her at her Bachelorette Party/Getaway, I couldn't help but keep up-to-date on the happenings. She made it super easy too by creating a cute hashtag #donttellmrtell (her hubby-to-be is Mr. Tell). As usual, I was not disappointed as I tagged along for the trip.

From the darling pictures of her and her best friends Lo Bosworth, who you might remember from the reality shows also, and Jilly Hendrix playing in the water, or the bestie shot of the three of them facing the ocean with their backs to the camera, they played this trip up right!

Really cute cookies were passed around, Lauren was sure to standout in her ginormous bow headband letting the world know she's the bride-to-be, and my personal favorite - a washable tattoo was placed on all the girls' wrists. Can you stand it?

This getaway before the nuptials was absolutely picture perfect! Next stop? The aisle where I see lots of handcrafted cuteness and jaw-dropping beauty!

BUMmed OUT Bridesmaids!

I'm trying to write this article with no buns…I mean "puns"…intended, but it's difficult to write anything butt…haha. Seriously though, I like to think I'm as out-of-the-box as possible when it comes to weddings, but this is one trend rearing (I can't help it) it's ugly head that I am not in agreement with.

A while back I saw what I thought was a really cute picture taken by groomsmen who were on a beach, trousers down, and their titles on their boxer briefs. After looking at the picture, I thought it could be a little degrading towards the wedding itself. At the same time though, I felt it was probably unique to the personality of those in the group and would totally make for great memories and 8x10s!

Well, as we turn the other cheek so-to-speak, we are noticing a trend in the industry of bridesmaids' booties! Maybe they've felt as though they've gotten the ass-end of the deal for too long wearing those silly gowns! haha. Okay, I'll definitely stop now with the jokes especially because I don't think this is funny.

I hope my opinion doesn't appear sexist since I thought the guys looked "cute" in their Fruit of the Loom, and I'm all for women's lib, BUTT (there I go again) I think it is so extremely tasteless and classless for these women to be baring their underwear and rears for one of the most special days of a girl's life. Cheeky? Not even. I don't think it's funny or attractive. I think it's disgraceful. In the day of Pinterest where so many neat bridesmaid photo ideas can be shared, this is one idea that I hope doesn't spread.

Keep it clASSy, people!

Baking NAKED!

Just after a few year stint of wedding cakes becoming more and more intricate, blowing up on TV shows such as 'Cake Boss', and taking center stage at weddings such as Kaley Cuoco's (who can forget the Big Bang Theory's star's gravity-defying chandelier cake?), a new trend is taking shape thanks to originator Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar in New York.

The trend that I'm about to uncover? The Naked Cake! That's right. A cake that is baring all and leaving nothing to the imagination. Layers and layers of fruity and creamy fillings just waiting to be gobbled up are what lie before you on display. The idea behind this new fad may've come from the trending rustic theme becoming more and more popular where weddings take place outdoors, in barns, and are streamlined with burlap. The beauty of the cake lies in the way it is perfectly stacked and the colors and flavors that are used throughout.

Bakers now face a new challenge as they are not able to hide any mistakes with fondant or keep the cake from going stale with buttercream. The appeal is in the bareness and focus is more on flavor which can also be a great thing for bakers who enjoy their craft and guests who enjoy their food! Talk about natural beauty!

Olivia Palermo - She Said "I DO" and Did What?

Socialite Olivia Palermo, who some may know from MTV's 'The City', wed this past weekend to model Johannes Huebl in New York surrounded by just a few family members and a couple of friends. As soon as news broke of her engagement earlier this year, speculations were being made as to who and what Olivia would be wearing on her big day. Olivia, who has been an icon in the fashion scene for years, even landed on the cover of 'Brides' magazine with a splash inside showing her in different scenario gowns. One fashion did involve a transformation of a stunning Monique Lhuillier dress that Olivia added a white button down blouse to which was then tied at the waist to tone it down a bit. She was also photographed in Marchesa and Elie Saab. However, it was Carolina Herrera who she ran with on her wedding day…in blue Sex and the City-inspired Manolo Blahniks!

It wasn't one of Carolina Herrera's amazing bridal gowns that Olivia wore though. Instead, it was a 3 piece ensemble made up of a skirt, a SWEATER, and SHORTS! Okay, so she does like to tone things down when it comes to fashion, we see, and she definitely doesn't follow suit. What's more is that she finished the look with a pony tail. I give her props because if you're toning a look down, but doing it with Carolina Herrera, it can actually work! And the ponytail…it's very her and true to herself and personal style. She basically stayed consistent on her wedding day and looked exquisite in Olivia Palermo style.

As much as I wanted to be upset about this look because I am always so eager to see the beautiful gowns that these fashion gurus pick, I think she could be the one person able to pull off this look. Do I see it as a new trend blossoming? Not necessarily. Perhaps a dress inspired by this look with shorts underneath will be on its way, but I don't see every day women being able to pull off or wanting to pull off a wedding outfit that consists of sweater material or shorts.

This look certainly showcased Olivia as her normal self - high fashion, poised, sophisticated, and truly unique. It's a very romantic look too!

Great Expectations Surpassed! Jessica Simpson's 2014 Wedding

As if it were out of a Dicken's tale or a Hollywood movie - WAIT! It was both! Mindy Weiss, Jessica Simpson's brilliant Wedding Planner who I absolutely adore, took Jessica's wishes that her wedding reception resemble the 1998 version of 'Great Expectations' and brought it to life for her as she wed to Eric Johnson.

From the exquisite abundance of flowers and greenery, the scenery for the big day was flawless and the details so beautifully ornate, Jessica must've felt as if she stepped inside the incredible love story as her own played out.

This is a screenshot from the movie to keep in mind when you see the magic Mindy Weiss created and just how amazing she is!

Jessica stuns in her Carolina Herrera gown in this photo which was instagrammed by The Dress Reserve. The strapless a-line golden/champagne embroidered wedding gown was matched perfectly with a cathedral length veil for a regally romantic storybook look! I love the idea of the color of the gown since this wasn't her first marriage. It's a perfect choice!

Even though Jessica was a gorgeous bride from head to toe, and the decor outstanding, what excites me most about the wedding is the bridesmaid fashion! Nicole Chavez, one of Jessica's bridesmaids, styled the 12 bridesmaids including her sister and mother who were the Maids of Honor (another sweet touch). While an etheral theme was the core inspiration for the fashion, each girl embodied a dress by a different designer…not just any designer of course, but those such as Temperly, Marchesa, and Jason Wu. With each design came a completely different dress in a different color, design, and in some cases, pattern. Each dress was personally chosen and unique to the girl who wore it to showcase her personality which is something that I think is so extremely beautiful for a bride to do for her bridal party - highlight the ones she loves to let all of her guests learn who she is surrounded by and why they were so very important to be chosen as one of her maids! I'd love to see this idea take off as a trend! It's something I would love to play with in future weddings - especially those that have themes to embrace this idea. This aspect of the wedding was what really exceeded MY expectations!

Without further ado or I Dos…here is a video brought to us by People Magazine that takes you page by page through this beautiful love story!

Since the trailer has finally aired for the much-anticipated 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie, I have decided to use what I know of that storyline as inspiration for a wedding style board. From the seductive candles hanging over head creating a hot wax, to the sensual lace gloves that can be worn by bridesmaids, there are many details that can be pulled together from this story to create an elegant wedding with a shade of sexy!

I decided to intertwine black and gold and use them as my main colors - black for its mystery and rebellion and gold for it's tie in with power. I brought a Vera Wang gown in from her Spring 2014 line as while simple yet chic, it holds a dominant look - especially when paired with long black leather gloves. The plate settings are a little tounge-in-cheek as they are supposed to represent a blindfold being wrapped around the menu. You're also sure to see monograms in this theme as signs of ownership.

Some other attributes to pull in to this style would be red lipstick, red flowers, black feathers, black linens, velvet linens, mirrors, mirrors, mirrors, and lots more candles. If you keep it classy, you can play with this novel/movie to create a basis for a theme and a unique ambience for your wedding.

Table numbers are a great way to bring in mirrors.

I would have to highly recommend that the cake swing from the ceiling just as Kaley Cuoco's did though!

Everyone will be honeymooning after this theme, for sure!

Top of the Crop

It's amazing to watch the evolution of wedding gowns! Just when you thought you've seen it all, crop tops have been creeping up on the scene! We've seen two-piece wedding gowns before, but this new trend is raising the bar…above the belly button! Some of these looks are somehow still classy like the gorgeous look from Houghton, while some are just not very wedding-worthy. All taste and morals aside for a wedding day, I can't get enough of the Hayley Paige gown. That, for me, wins top of the crop in this battle!

The Dress After "Yes" - Andi Dorfman

A girl can only dream of being the star of a show surrounded by 25 men who are vying for her heart and hand in marriage! Can you imagine being that star and while all the romance is taking place, you're dressed to the nines in designer fashions and having your hair and make-up done too? This past season, Andi Dorfman was a lucky gal who got to live that fantasy as she was ABC's 'Bachelorette'! Not only did she find her prince charming in the end and get engaged, she did it in style. Wearing names such as Dolce & Gabana, Badgley Mischka, and Randi Rahm, Andi got to dazzle us in gowns at the rose ceremonies and on lavish dates, and now she will be on the hunt for the perfect dress for the alter!

While it's up-in-the-air whether or not the wedding between Andi and her fiance Josh Murray will be televised (I'm sure it will be), I can't help but wonder if being "The Bachelorette" grants you the honor of having designers knocking on your door eager to design a dress for you. Although, if it's a televised event, I think it's quite possible.

Saying she and her fiance are thinking about getting married in the Spring, Andi has about 6 months to find that dress! As a Wedding Planner, I know that's not the greatest amount of time, but I'm sure it'll work (especially if Vera or Pnina were to whip something up for her). I thought it would be nice to give her a hand though. Andi, if you're reading this girlfriend, I've taken the liberty of helping you find your dress!

For starters, I think that Andi's choice in men now has an effect on her choice of dress. Had she ended up with Nick, who she seemed to have been total best friends with and have had the upper-hand with, I see her having worn something very beautiful and princessy - a ball gown perhaps, but landing in the arms of her hunk Josh (who she has mentioned feeling somewhat insecure around at times due to her past relationships with the stereotypical athletes - which in a way is a good thing because they will always have the "hots" for each other), I have a feeling she is going to put herself in a number that will take him back to his knees and not be able to remove the image of his bride from his mind…ever!

If you were an avid watcher of the show and kept up with her fashion choices (whether they be her own or that of her designers), you may've noticed that Andi seems to like baring her back. She wore many tank tops that had low v-cuts. She showed some decent cleavage too! With that, I think she's going to try to spice up her vows by baring skin. I think she'll stay somewhat on the traditional side for the sake of their families, and possibly television, but I think as traditional as she is going to get is with lace and a train! I absolutely see Andi wearing lace of some sort. (She did wear a very pretty white short lace dress by Lover on 'After the Final Rose', so perhaps I may be on the right track). I do not see her wearing a ball gown, but rather a fit and flare or mermaid style to show off her curves. I don't see her wearing any of the latest trends that are off-the-shoulder or a color other than in the white family. I think she is going to find the gown that best fits her body, allows her to flaunt it, and makes it evident that SHE is the bride and a force to be reckoned with. All eyes will be on her that day…especially Josh's!

With that, Andi, Berta is the way to go for you! The Israeli designer has captured an ultra sexy look with her collection showing low-cut backs, low-cut fronts, lace, and glamour. I just can't help but see you in almost all of her designs!

You'll notice the first gown I'm showing looks like it could've been a longer version of what Andi wore on 'After the Final Rose'. Since it's a spring wedding though, I'm thinking the long sleeves are not going to necessarily fit, so keep going…I've got that dress!

 Check out these stunners:

Can you even stand the back on this one?
As much as I love it, the bottom does not flare enough. This is not exactly the dress for Andi…

Now this dress I have absolutely loved from the first time I saw it!
Is it Andi though? Could be...

This sparkling gown is so gorgeous, and the back? Simply Andi!
It just appears to be a dress that she could've easily worn on the show though and that's the problem with a lot of the dresses. If she doesn't wear a princess or ball gown, she's going to want to go big with a different look!

but wait…what's this???

"STOPPPP!"
If you're a fan of the show, then you will totally understand that remark. This is the one! This is my pick from Berta Bridals.
Do you, Andi, accept my advice?

Miss America Wearing…Bowls!

In one month, people will be tuning in to the Miss America Pageant live from Atlantic City. Many will be excited for the swimsuit portion, some will be excited for talent, a good amount of people will be shouting at their screen during the questions, and while all will be their own judge picking their favorite girl to represent America, I will be picking my favorite gown!

When I heard that one of my favorite dress designers, Tony Bowls, would be dressing all of the contestants this year, I became ecstatic! I've been in love with Tony Bowls' dresses for years! He has been one of the lead designers of Prom Gowns and Pageant Dresses. And, you can imagine my excitement the moment I found out that Mon Cheri would be carrying his collection of Wedding Gowns!

You see, just as almost every girl probably dreams of being Miss America at some point, almost every girl also dreams of wearing a dress just like the ones that Tony Bowls designs. When I think of Tony Bowls…I think Fireworks! His dresses sparkle, dazzle, and shimmer! They burst in to prints!

After checking out some of my favorites, take a look at a possible prediction for the line that will be worn at the show!

Once I found out the girls would all be wearing Tony Bowls gowns, I immediately had to ask which collection Tony would be showcasing. It had to be 2015 Evening Gowns or Pageant Dresses or something, right? Well, I was told that he will be customizing each dress for each contestant and then they will be available for sale! This got me to thinking…will there be a theme?

Can you see this Emerald green dress for Kansas?

Mardi Gras Madness for Louisianna maybe?

How bout the colors of a Nevada sunset?

District of Columbia - speaks for itself!
How bout this sweet southern number for Mississippi?

What up, New Jersey?!?!

Texas Rose?

Aloha, Hawaii!

Vegas, Baby!

This dress has a New York state of mind!

Welcome to Miami!

Georgia Peach?

Southern Belle of Alabama?

How bout somewhat of an eskimo look for Arkansas?

New Hampshire's state butterfly is blue!!! Okay, that's pushing it. haha.

I somehow doubt that there will be a theme with the dresses, but it was fun to play with the idea! It was also fun to show you that Tony has such a wide array of dresses, and I didn't even show you any of his short cocktail dresses! We'll save that for another time. I just absolutely canNOT wait to see what Tony creates for the contestants. These girls are not only lucky to be of the chosen to grace that stage, but they will be dressed by one of the best!

Sock It Up!

Brides and bridesmaids are no longer the only ones spending time putting together every last detail from hairystyle to pedicure. The guys have been stepping it up in big ways from head to toe! Not only have we been seeing the groom and groomsmen replacing the common black tuxedo with something as simple as a plaid shirt and slacks, the common black shoes being exchanged for sneakers, taking off the jackets and adding suspenders, incorporating fun ties, and going all out with every color pant - even pink, but they have some really fun ways of bringing their personalities in to the wedding day festivities!

One of my personal favorites has always been the groomsmen who showcase their superhero powers  underneath their button-down white shirts.

Aside from superhero shirts and unique cufflinks though, a trend that has lasted for a couple years now that is gaining more popularity is, in fact, socks! Check out some of these really neat ways to incorporate personality, the wedding's theme, color scheme, or just get a smile and a neat picture!

Socks also make great attendant gifts and are a neat gift to give when asking your friends if they will be your groomsmen. You can find some really neat ones like the "Cold Feet" for the bride to give her hubby-to-be and titled socks at WeddingSocksandUnderwear.com.

HEATHER'S BRIDAL FASHION WEEK AWARDS!

Bridal Fashion Week always amazes me. Just when you ask yourself "how many more ways can you make a wedding gown different?" the designers create mind-blowing fashions! From using new materials and ideas, they create the newest trends…no wonder they are the ones who create that special dress to help make a woman's "once in a lifetime" dream come true! Designers are the fairy Godmothers to women all over the world!

It seems as though as much as I have my favorite designers, season to season different designers really shine through and grab my attention! Some of those who were a notch above the rest this season, for me, were Houghton, Theia, Aria, Reem Acra, Ramona Keveza, and Carol Hannah to name a few!

Since I loved SO many gowns and there are so many different fun themes a bride can play with now, I created tons of fun categorizes in a way to award these designers and their dresses! Enjoy!

2015 Color of the Year by Pantone - MARSALA

$

As we leave behind 2014, we say 'goodbye' to Radiant Orchid and 'hello' to Marsala which has been named "2015's Color of the Year" by Pantone. Marsala, like the wine, is on the lines of a burgundy hue. Coming out of the holiday season and moving towards Valentine's Day, this color is in the right place at the right time. While it's a pretty winter color though, you might not have the easiest time envisioning it for, let's say, spring and summer weddings. I want to tell you that it CAN in fact work nicely by playing it up with other colors. It pairs nicely with gold for an elegant feel and it can be utterly romantic when paired with pinks (especially light pink and peach).
